Lettre

La lettre, document de l’absence, ne nous renvoie, déformé par l’alchimie de la séparation, qu’un reflet de ce que n’est pas, de ce que l’on ne peut vivre. Elle est ce qui a été, ce qui n’est plus, mirroir de sentiments exaspérés, edulcurés, de mots d’attente conventionnels que l’on se doit dire à l’autrre pour s’apaiser soi-même quand il n’est plus là.

At 800 and aging well, the Magna Carta is still a big draw

The British Library is now showing the original manuscript of the Magna Carta, issued by King John in 1215 - more than 500 years before the US Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. This exhibit, "Magna Carta: Law, Liberty, Legacy," is all part of an effort to show how the English document shaped today's world. The British Library is displaying two original copies of the Magna Carta. The text- translated into modern English from the original Latin reads: "No free man shall be arrested or imprisoned save by the lawful judgment of their equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one will we deny or delay right or justice. In 1215, it was revolutionary for a king to say that not even he was above the law. Of course, King John did not actually want to issue this document. He was at war with English barons; they gave him no choice. Then the king went behind their backs and secretly wrote a letter to Pope Innocent III, saying, "I have been forced to sign this awful thing! What people often don't realize is that Magna Carta itself was only valid for 10 weeks. The pope responded with a letter known as a "papal bull," which is also on display. The pope says, 'I declare the charter to be null and void of all validity forever. And yet the document became the foundation of the modern judicial system.

A Biblioteca Britânica exibe agora o manuscrito original da Carta Magna promulgada por D. João em 1215, mais de 500 anos antes da Declaração de Independência os EUA e o Bill of Rights. Ela exibe o título de "Magna Carta: Law, Liberty, Legacy", tudo é parte de um esforço para mostrar como o documento Inglês conforma o mundo de hoje. A Biblioteca Britânica está exibindo dois exemplares originais da Magna Carta. No texto-traduzido para o Inglês moderno do latim original lê-se: "Nenhum homem livre será detido ou preso, salvo pelo julgamento legal de seus pares ou pela lei da terra. A ninguém venderemos, a ninguém negaremos ou retardaremos o direito ou a justiça. Em 1215 era algo revolucionário para um rei afirmar que nem mesmo ele estava acima da lei. É claro, o Rei John realmente não desejava promulgar tal documento. Ele estava em guerra com os barões ingleses, e não teve escolha. Secretamente, porém, escreveu uma carta ao Papa Inocêncio III, dizendo: “Eu fui forçado a assinar essa coisa horrível!” ― O que muitas vezes as pessoas não percebem é que a própria Carta Magna foi válida apenas durante 10 semanas. O papa respondeu com uma carta conhecida como a "bula papal", que também está em exibição.  Diz o Papa: "Eu declaro a Carta deve ser nula e sem efeito de toda validade para sempre”. ― O documento, mesmo assim, tornou-se a base do sistema judicial moderno.
